Bitcoin Hits New Record Above $125,000 in October 2025 Before Sharp Pullback

Bitcoin set a new all-time high in the first week of October 2025, trading above $125,000 and briefly touching approximately $126,000 in the following session, surpassing its previous record of roughly $124,000 set in August 2025. The move followed bitcoin's first-ever crossing above the $100,000 mark, reached in December 2024.

The rally was widely attributed to sustained institutional demand channeled through U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs, which recorded billions of dollars in net inflows during the period, alongside expectations of further Federal Reserve interest-rate cuts and a broadly risk-on sentiment following a friendlier U.S. regulatory posture toward digital assets, including the GENIUS Act's passage earlier in the year.

The gains proved short-lived. In the weeks following the October peak, bitcoin's price retreated substantially amid a broader risk-off shift in markets, falling to roughly $84,000-$85,000 by late November 2025, and continuing to soften into early 2026 — underscoring that even as institutional adoption of bitcoin has deepened through regulated investment vehicles, the asset has continued to exhibit significant short-term volatility.

The October 2025 peak remains, as of this writing, bitcoin's highest recorded nominal U.S. dollar price since the asset's creation in 2009.
