About 1inch
1inch is a decentralized DEX aggregator, founded in May 2019 by Sergej Kunz and Anton Bukov at the ETHGlobal hackathon in New York. Unlike Uniswap, PancakeSwap, or Curve, it doesn't maintain its own liquidity pools as its core product — instead, it searches for the best possible price by scanning dozens of other DEXes, splitting an order across several of them when doing so lowers the cost.
How aggregation works
The 1inch Aggregation Protocol analyzes available liquidity across many DEXes simultaneously and splits larger orders to minimize price slippage. In December 2022, 1inch launched the Fusion Protocol — a model built around "intents," where the user signs an intent to transact and competing "resolvers" execute it, reducing the risk of front-running.
Supported networks
1inch started out exclusively on Ethereum, later adding BNB Chain. On April 29, 2025, it integrated Solana, and on August 19, 2025, it enabled swaps between Solana and other networks.
Fees and the 1INCH token
There's no single fixed fee of its own — the cost depends on which pools the order routes through (Uniswap, Curve) plus gas. The 1INCH token, launched in December 2020 alongside the 1inch DAO, is used to govern the protocol. In April 2021, 1inch launched the 1inch Wallet, a non-custodial mobile app that integrates the aggregator with a standard wallet.
Security
The 1inch Limit Order Protocol underwent an OpenZeppelin audit in December 2021. Because 1inch doesn't maintain its own large pools, its exposure to typical AMM risks (impermanent loss, pool math bugs) is lower — the main risk remains the security of the routing contract and of the protocols the transaction actually passes through.
Who it's for
A good fit for anyone who wants confidence in getting a competitive price without manually comparing DEXes, especially on larger transactions where splitting the order reduces slippage. Less relevant for very small, routine swaps of the same pair.
