About Coinbase

Coinbase is a US-based company running one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. It operates without a single physical headquarters, functioning largely as a distributed company. Founded in 2012, Coinbase has since become one of the largest and most heavily regulated exchanges globally, offering more than 100 cryptocurrencies to a customer base of over 70 million users spread across more than 100 countries.

Coinbase maintains crypto insurance coverage, and USD cash balances held on the platform are covered by FDIC insurance up to $250,000. Customers can choose between two account types — a Regular account for everyday use, and Coinbase Advanced for lower fees and more sophisticated trading tools.

Coinbase has no publicly documented history of a hack resulting in stolen customer funds. It's worth noting that in 2025, the exchange disclosed an incident in which bribed customer-support contractors leaked customer data — names and account information — to attackers; the company was explicit that no passwords, private keys, or funds were compromised in the breach. It was a data-exposure incident rather than a hack of funds, and Coinbase responded with account monitoring and reimbursement commitments for affected users.

Learn and Earn

Coinbase lets users earn free crypto simply by learning about newer digital assets. To claim a reward, customers watch short videos about a given cryptocurrency and complete a short quiz. Coinbase regularly runs dozens of these offers, with individual rewards worth up to $10 each.

Educational Resources

Beyond the Learn and Earn program, Coinbase publishes a large library of educational articles covering crypto assets and the broader market, aimed at helping customers feel more confident navigating the space. These resources range from beginner explainers to more advanced market context.

Debit Card

Coinbase offers its own debit card, making it easier to spend crypto holdings on everyday purchases. Cardholders also have access to a range of ongoing card-related bonuses and rewards.

Not only is it literally impossible to change your legal name after you set it but once you deposit money in Coinbase will hold it for up to 10 days without letting you do anything
