Market Capitalization (Market Cap)

The total value of all units of a given cryptocurrency in circulation, calculated as price multiplied by circulating supply.

Market capitalization (market cap) is the basic indicator of a cryptocurrency's size, calculated as the current price of one unit multiplied by the number of coins currently in circulation (circulating supply). It's the main criterion by which cryptocurrencies are ranked on sites such as CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko.

Market cap is often mistaken for the actual amount of money that has flowed into a given project — in reality it's a theoretical figure, since trying to sell all the coins at once would drastically drive the price down due to limited liquidity. It's always worth analyzing alongside liquidity and trading volume.
