About Poloniex

Poloniex was founded in Wilmington, Delaware (USA) in 2014, and over the years has grown into one of the larger crypto exchanges by user count, with more than 100 million users across 30 countries. The platform lists more than 50 coins for trading.

Trading Volume

Poloniex combines relatively low fees with a sizeable amount of daily activity — the exchange currently handles roughly $572 million in daily trading volume, putting it firmly among the mid-to-large tier of global exchanges.

Transaction Types

Poloniex supports the standard range of trading activity: buying, selling, and trading crypto, deposits and withdrawals, and margin trading. Beyond spot markets, the platform also offers its own self-custody wallet and an NFT marketplace.

Fees

Poloniex runs its own fee schedule based on trailing 30-day trading volume, split into 6 tiers. At tier 1, fees start at 0.145% maker / 0.155% taker; at the top tier, they drop as low as 0.02% maker / 0.1% taker. There are no deposit fees, and withdrawals carry a flat fee per asset that covers the underlying blockchain broadcast cost.

Memberships

On top of the standard fee tiers, Poloniex offers 2 paid membership plans with better rates and extra perks:

  • Poloniex Plus Silver — lower fees regardless of trading volume, priority customer support, and API access.
  • Poloniex Plus Gold — even lower fees than Silver, priority whitelisting, higher API rate limits, and higher withdrawal limits.

Poloniex Futures API

Poloniex provides a well-documented API for its futures markets, aimed at users building trading bots, market-analysis tools, or other data-driven finance software on top of the exchange.

Payment Methods

Deposits on Poloniex can be made via bank account, credit card, debit card, P2P trading, or Simplex. Withdrawals are available via bank account, credit or debit card (Mastercard or Visa), or P2P. The platform is available on Android, iOS, and the web.

Security Incident: November 2023 Hot Wallet Breach

In November 2023, Poloniex suffered a major security incident in which hot wallets across the Ethereum, Tron, and Bitcoin networks were drained. On-chain analysis put the total loss at roughly $100–125 million, making it one of the larger exchange hacks in recent years. Poloniex owner Justin Sun confirmed the exploit, publicly offered the attacker a 5% white-hat bounty in exchange for returning the funds, and committed to reimbursing affected users. The scale and recency of this incident, combined with ongoing scrutiny of the exchange's ownership structure, are worth factoring into any risk assessment of the platform.

My experience was good, withdrawal of a delisted coin and deposit went smoothly.
